How do I delete a Facebook Page?
You will have the option to unpublish or delete your Page. If you choose to delete your Page, this is permanent.
- From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
- Select Manage Permissions
- Click Delete [Your Page Name]
However, try to avoid discontinuing a social media presence. Only deleta a page if it you’re no longer adding value for your followers or losing control over the quality of your content.
Before closing down a Fan Page:
- Will you continue our account somewhere else?
- Will you merge the page with another existing fan page?
As for alternative no 2 – there is no handy feature on Facebook that lets you merge two fan pages. If you happen to work at a large enough organisation this can often be arranged anyway by contacting your Facebook Account Manager. If you succeed in merging two fan pages, remember that the two fan bases might expect different things in terms of content and ways of communicating. Show respect to the migrating fans, and support them in feeling that you still care to update them in a way that is familiar to them.
The actions required to drive traffic and migrate fans to a new fan page or website should be initiated as early as possible. This can be broadcasted through wall updates, newsletters and direct messaging.
- Start out by posting a general update on the wall, edit the About Us part and also send out a direct message to all fans telling them about the switch. After 2-3 weeks it could be suitable to send out another update on the wall about the close and during the next day or two close it down.
